## what is adder circuit?

Do you know what is adder circuit? adder circuit is a series of logical gates arranged in such a way that it can complete the addition operation in binary form

## Types of adder circuit and how does adder work?

The adder chain consists of several kinds of them

- Half Adder circuit
- Full Adder Circuits
- Parallel Adder

The opposite of the adder circuit is the subtractor circuit

### The Half Adder circuit

The Half Adder circuit is the simplest Adder circuit

The Half Adder circuit can be created using an And Gate and an Xor Gate

Before discussing about Half Adder further notice the addition operation of the following binary numbers

- 0 + 0 = 0
- 0 + 1 = 1
- 1 + 0 = 1
- 1 + 1 = 0 remaining 1

The Adder circuit is arranged so that it can perform the addition operation as above

Here’s the Half Adder chain

- Pin A serves to enter the first Input
- Pin B serves to enter the second Input
- Pin S serves to display the sum of A + B
- Pin C serves for the Carry output of the remaining sum

The disadvantage of the Half adder is that it can not pass the carry value to the next circuit and can not accept the carry value of the previous series

Hence it is called Half adder

To overcome the deficiencies in the Half adder then created a full adder series

### Full Adder circuit

Full adder circuit is an adder circuit that can accept carry in value from previous circuit and forward carry out value to next circuit

Full Adder circuit can be created by merging 2 Half adder

The above circuit forms a full adder circuit or a 1 bit sum sequence

To create a series of adders that can add up a few bits then we need to assemble some full adders into one so as to form a parallel adder

### Parallel Adder circuit

The Parallel Adder circuit is a collection of full adder circuits arranged in such a way that it can perform a complete sum operation

The above sequence can add up to 4 bits of binary numbers. The more the array of full adders the more number of bits can be processed
